Education and Training
In general education schools, one to two hours of music are offered per week. The approximately 108 elementary schools with a musical focus, 100 secondary music schools, 20 grammar schools with an extended music program and the eight music grammar schools place a real emphasis on music. Thus, Austria can hold its own in a pan-European comparison. A reduction would also be politically unwise: 90% of Austrians believe that singing should take place in schools.
In addition to the large number of authors, another unique feature of Austria is probably the number of students at music schools. Lessons at music schools are attended by about 10% of Austrians between the ages of 5 and 24 (excluding private lessons). Favorite instruments are still piano, closely followed by guitar, both together accounting for almost a quarter of the lessons offered.
Music can be studied at seven Austrian music universities.
